Spoilers for “X-Males ’97” Season 2, Episode 2 to comply with.
After a season premiere following the X-Males to the far future, “X-Males ’97” Season 2, Episode 2, “A Power to be Reckoned With,” returns to the current. Within the X-Males’s absence, government-sponsored mutant staff X-Issue has been gathering up mutants, supposedly for their very own safety. Jubilee (Holly Chou) and Sunspot (Gui Agustini), a number of the solely X-Males left within the Nineteen Nineties, join with Cable’s (Chris Potter) new staff, X-Power, and butt heads with X-Issue.
After X-Issue captures Jubilee, she manages to sway the staff’s Polaris (Carolina Ravassa), a former X-Man. Polaris needs to guard mutants and, she realizes, X-Issue has strayed from that. Freed by Polaris, Jubilee goes to work liberating X-Issue’s mutant prisoners — and selects simply the correct tune for the event.
Jubilee, geared up along with her headphones, curler skates, and bubblegum, fights X-Issue’s armed guards whereas enjoying Veruca Salt’s “Volcano Ladies.” Named after the spoiled wealthy woman from “Charlie and the Chocolate Manufacturing unit,” Veruca Salt is an alt rock band led by co-vocalists and guitarists Nina Gordon and Louise Submit. “Volcano Ladies” is a single off their second album, “Eight Arms to Maintain You,” launched in 1997 and with an accompanying music video. (For some additional Marvelous enjoyable, there is a monitor known as “Spiderman ’79” on that album.)

A chorus in “Volcano Ladies,” heard loudly on this scene, creates a lyrical loop: “Go I do not wanna go I do not wanna go.” That defiant however upbeat and catchy sound exhibits why “Volcano Ladies” is an ideal decide for this scene and “X-Males ’97.” The tune — certainly, early Veruca Salt as an entire — matches Jubilee, the youngest and hippest of the X-Males. It does not harm that it is actually from 1997, too.
